Running!

09.25.05

I ran this morning in the Fremont Oktoberfest 5-k. It started at 9:30 on this beautiful Sunday morning in Fremont–a wacky part of Seattle. I like to call it, “hippie on the outside, yuppie on the inside”. Anyway, it was my first race since 2003, so I thought I would be horrible, but I had a lot of things going for me.
1) Justin’s I-pod shuffle with rockin’ Indian music and Cake
2) Competition
3) A clear idea of where the race would finish
4) supporters at the finish line (Andrea and anyone else who finished before I did)
5) pride–I didn’t want to be one of the “walkers”

So, I finished in less than 30 minutes and I didn’t walk the whole way. I was rewarded with bananas, cold water, free running gloves, and fruit leather. Woot.

The Dawg Dash is in a little over a month–here’s to making it in 25 minutes.

Today and Yesterday

09.24.05

*got new phones…other ones aren’t working
*read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe for the first time–significant Christ/redemption themes!
*went to the Friends of the Library book sale and bought 83 books for less than $60—all for the classroom
*went to grad school last night
*went to a birthday party for one of Justin’s coworkers
*had a Muffins and Makeover party this morning

doing housework now and about to watch “Girl with the Pearl Earring”

Bonus Question: If you could say I looked like one of these three actresses (I’ve heard I look like all of them from different people) which one would you pick?:

Clare Danes
Scarlett Johannson
Drew Barrymore

so much going on; so little time

09.22.05

Um….an update…let’s see. Last night the electricity went out for a few hours before we went to bed. I lesson planned by candlelight, and Justin and I formulated a wake-up plan centered on cell phone alarm clocks and breakfast/coffee at McD’s.

I got to school and helped students with a lab on the effects of changing pH levels and temperature on daphnia, a tiny crustacean. I helped with the senior class meeting during advisory, helped seniors in my LA class choose a topic and thesis for their paper, and taught reading strategies to my LA10 class. During my free period, I watched the 10-12 students that didn’t go on one of the field trips.

After school, I went to the chiropractor, had my first pumpkin spice latte of the season, picked up Justin, and registered for Pioneer Organics again.

Now we are going to work out, as I am running a race this Sunday. :)

I’m here!! Really, I am!

09.16.05

It’s my lunch now, and I am writing during my lunch. It’s Friday and I’m most of the way done with my classes. I’m listening to Garrion Keillor now.

Tonight I will go to a colleague’s Back-to-School party, then I’ll go with Justin to a play at the Intiman. Tomorrow will be Puyallup Fair day with Andrea, and Saturday is my debut!

I can’t listen to the show and type at the same time, so this has to be short…

Lake Trip

09.11.05

I just got back from a trip with some awesome ladies to a place called Aumsville, OR. It’s my MK director’s mom’s/grandma’s place and we stayed there for the weekend. We fished, ate, walked, paddled, and beaded jewelry. We had tons of fun, but now I need to get on to my lesson planning. More details later (and pictures!)

First Day of School…tomorrow…

09.06.05

I’ve worked at school all day today preparing for tomorrow.
1) We had a stupid 3-hour meeting this morning, first thing
2) There’s an espresso stand within walking distance from my school
3) I made all my copies for the week, and I am uber-organized

I must go now and revel in my short-lived organization.

Itsa-Labor-Day!

09.05.05

Today I woke up at 9:30 to make pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Soon, Justin and I will go for a walk on this overcast and cool day. Later this evening, our church will have a meeting regarding forming 2 groups from our 1, and then we’l BBQ! My friend Lan is coming to teach me how to make dumplings–woohoo!

I haven’t done much today, so I’ll talk about the weekend as a whole. Friday night Justin and I watched “Enter the Dragon” with Bruce Lee. We ate gyoza and sticky rice, and I had some tea, just to fit the mood. Saturday Justin and I worked out, I worked in my garden, did laundry, cleaned the house, cooked tortellini soup, read a magazine, and generally stayed home alone doing house-y stuff. That evening was our film nite and we watched “Song of the South.” We played a rousing game of Settlers after an interesting discussion.

Sunday was our church meeting, followed by a BBQ with the Eldred’s, followed by a haircut for me, housecleaning, and a no-show for one of my Mary Kay parties. Blech. Aaron, Andrea, and Justin were at Victrola, so I decided to meet them afterward for some consolation and lesson planning. A coconut macaroon and cocoa loco tea would make everything better. I loved the feeling of that evening.

the streets are rainy, air is cool, i pass urban twinkling lights and enter a warm coffee house space buzzing with conversation, music, hip people
i wear a chocolate corduroy jacket, turquoise tank, jeans, brown vintage alligator kitten heels
sitting at candlelit tables with a rosette-foamed capuccino in dim lights
